The Dominant Male (2022)
Staged photography is considered to be a medium where photographers gain power over the curation of the photograph. More specifically, being defined as ‘Beyond the unique eye that captures a given situation, these artists create the events, the environments or the emotion’. These adaptations become embedded in the photographs as they become seen when fronting staged imagery. The camera grants scenes of fiction to also be fabricated within the depth of staged photographs as it becomes impacted by the viewer’s conclusions and adaptations to the work. The dominant male explores how staged imagery does not reflect on the truth within relation to the photographic. The initial research for this body of work came from the photographer Mitra Tabrizian more specifically the project titled ‘Wall House II’ (2007). This project is representative of staged photography while including a sense of uncertainty to the series, allowing the viewer to bring forth suggestions to what the implications of the photographs may be with the connections of fictional accounts possibly happening.
